Sleigh Bells, last spring's obsession.

Sleigh Bells:
-an american noise pop duo
-from brooklyn, nyc

Okay, so Sleigh Bells is one of those groups that I LOVE just because their sound is so different. I was stoked that they were playing at Coachella last year, but I missed them due to INSANE traffic. I don't want to talk about how I ended up walking 5 miles because it was faster than driving on a two lane road where 75,000 people were all trying heading to the same place.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, but I do understand that they are kind of a hit and miss. Some people really love them, and others not so much.
Example of the ridiculous traffic. People would just sit outside of their cars or run around screaming "COAAAAACHHHHELLLLLAAAAAAAAAA!!!!" The angst was unbearable.

The XX vs. Biggie

The xx are a Mercury Prize-winning trio formed in 2005 in London, England. The band members are Romy Madley Croft (vocals, lead guitar), Oliver Sim (vocals, bass guitar), and Jamie Smith (Jamie xx) (beats, MPC sampler).
Does anyone else think that Oliver Slim resembles Tom Riddle/ Draco Malfoy in demeanor?
Either way, his attempt at being dark and mysterious actually looks rather evil... or maybe constipated?

Bonding over a shared love of dark, emotive 80s guitar sounds, and the high-end sheen of American R&B, The xx’s unique sound befits a band whose wide range of influences combine beautiful, hushed vocal duets and a brilliantly inventive use of samples and low-end frequencies to produce stark, sweet, melancholic pop.

Claudia and I on our way to Vigo Transforma!
The first time that I saw The xx was at Coachella 2010 (April 16–18, 2010). This was the 11th installment of the festival which drew a reported 75,000 people. Personally, I felt that The xx was far too impersonal for a +15,000 crowd. I was not swept away by any means.
The second time, the experience was COMPLETELY different. Although Vigo Transforma (July 09–10, 2010) was still a festival setting, it was much more quaint. Right off of the coast of Spain's provence, Galicia. It was actually the first year that the festival had been held. It was only two stages, only one band playing at a time. Perfect size!

Magnetic Man, My Unhealthy Obsession.

Who is Magnetic Man?
Ever since I moved to Cal this fall, Magnetic Man has been an obsession of mine. None of their tracks seem to disappoint me. I guess that's what happens when you have a collaboration of dubstep producers/DJs, Benga, Skream, and Artwork. These three artists have been named “legends of the dubstep genre,” with reason. They perform using three computers: first playing drum samples, second playing basses, and the third playing leads and samples.

Magnetic Man is trying to take dubstep into the mainstream. However, this is path from the underground to the mainstream is risky. Often record labels do not know how to sell the music or original fans getting antsy about their heroes “selling out”. Their first album, “Magnetic Man”, was released on October 11th, 2010 on Columbia Records. It features vocals provided by different guest vocalists, such as Katy B and Ms. Dynamite. Magnetic Man has reached relatively high standing within charts in the Belgium, Denmark, and particularly the UK.
